Invitation

The International Society of Blood Purification is pleased to extend you an invitation to participate in the 30th Annual Meeting that will take place on September 06-08, 2012 in PACIFICO YOKOHAMA, Yokohama, Japan.

Almost one year has passed since unprecedented disaster hit Japan in 2011, and the country has been moving steadily toward full recovery. Tohoku, which bore the brunt of the earthquake and tsunami, is now recovering economically with the help of special procurements for disaster restoration, and production has already exceeded pre-disaster levels. Recovery from the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant accident may take more time; however, the nuclear reactors are under control and the risk of new disaster has been removed.

Looking to the future with a positive attitude, Japan is hosting the 30th Annual Meeting of the International Society of Blood Purification (ISBP). This will be the fifth annual meeting in Japan and the first one since 2006. This year, the meeting will take place for the first time in Yokohama, one of Japan’s oldest ports, and a town whose development was greatly influenced through its interaction with Western culture. It is located only 20 kilometers from Tokyo and forms part of the Tokyo metropolitan area.

We have organized a joint symposium with the Japanese Society for Hemodiafiltration (Japan HDF) on the last day of the meeting which will feature presentations from various countries on the current state of HDF and future trends. The Meeting will also include symposiums and workshops on many interesting and current topics, such as CKD-MBD, FGF-23/Klotho, Hypoxia and tissue injury, and MIA syndrome, and awards for new researchers.

I am certain that many of those involved in the field of blood purification will want to attend and take advantage of this opportunity for active, high-level discussion, and I look forward to seeing you all in the port town of Yokohama in autumn 2012.

Tadao Akizawa
President, ISBP 2012
